Gabriella Casalino is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the Computational Intelligence Laboratory (CILab), Department of Informatics, University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy).
Her research lies in the field of Computational Intelligence, with a particular focus on Intelligent Data Analysis, eHealth, Data Stream Mining, and Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). She has contributed to several domains, including image analysis, educational data mining, text mining, e-health, bioinformatics, and signal processing.
Gabriella is actively engaged in the international research community as a reviewer for leading journals and conferences, and as part of the organizing committees of flagship events such as IEEE EAIS, EUSFLAT, and FUZZ-IEEE. She serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, Scientific Reports, and Soft Computing, and as Guest Editor for several special issues (IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, among others).
She has held visiting researcher positions at the Université de Mons (Belgium), Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw University of Technology (Poland), University of Ghent (Belgium), and Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland).
She is currently:
Secretary (2025–2027) of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT)
Lead of the Mentoring Program of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society at FUZZ-IEEE
Member of the IEEE CIS Task Force on Explainable Fuzzy Systems
Member of CITEL – Centro Interdipartimentale di Ricerca in Telemedicina, University of Bari
Member of the Steering Committee of HELMeTO (Higher Education Learning Methodologies and Technologies Online)
Gabriella is also an invited speaker at several international conferences and summer schools, including EUSFLAT, where she has contributed lectures on Explainable Artificial Intelligence and Computational Intelligence. She is a Senior Member of IEEE, and recipient of several awards, including the FUZZ-IEEE Best Paper Award (2022).
